Disk I/O problems???

With 2.6.3 and 2.6.4 I have been having some strange problems. Access to the disk seems to stall sometimes, but otherwise it runs as normal. For example, starting X for the first time stalls for a few seconds (before any text is displayed), but then continues to load as normal. KDE 3.2 has lost it's overall snappy-ness.

Same slow hard disk problem with me too, see my post but nobody has replied, waiting for enlightenment...
