Hello everybody!
I'm trying to install arch linux for this motherboard and having some issues with the internet.
After some searching, I've found that this motherboard requires ixgbe kernel module for the ethernet connection. So I've downloaded it from the Intel website*. Compilation and installation went well. I've enabled its loading on boot (with /etc/modules-load.d/ixgbe.conf file).
After system boot I have no wired interfaces. "ip link" and "ls /sys/class/net" both show only "lo" and "wlan0" interfaces.
Also, accordingly to the kernel log, the module is loaded and the device is recognized:
[ 77.493664] ixgbe: loading out-of-tree module taints kernel.
[ 77.493784] ixgbe: module verification failed: signature and/or required key missing - tainting kernel
[ 77.502190] Intel(R) 10GbE PCI Express Linux Network Driver - version 5.13.4
[ 77.502191] Copyright(c) 1999 - 2021 Intel Corporation.What should I do to enable the wired interface? Btw the kernel version is 5.16.5.arch1-1.
Thanks in advance.

There already exists a module in the kernel without the need for manual compilation, what was/is the result of using that? Why do you think that that's your kernel module? What's your output of

ixgbe as well and you potentially overwrote that now with a custom and outdated build, in which case you'd want to reinstall the linux package to reinstate the proper module.
That said, according to this lspci output, you do not have a ethernet interface at all. how sure are you that should exist? If you're sure it should exist, check whether the ethernet module is disabled in your UEFI.

There is no ethernet interface indeed. Before manual installation of the ixgbe module there was no signs of the device in dmesg. Now there is one. Still, no interfaces ![]()
I will try to carefully reinstall then. Thanks.
Offline
There is no sign of an ethernet interface the "sign" you see is simply you having forced the loading of ixgbe without there existing a device for it.
As for reinstalling, the only thing you'd need to reinstall is the linux package not the entire system, that should be fairly painless, if you retain the modules-load line you will still see the last two messages without the "kernel-taint" warnings.

That's true. I have this strings without "kernel-taint" warnings.
Still, there is no ethernet interface ![]()

Again unless something resembling an Ethernet device turns up in that lspci output you are not going to have much luck. You need to check the options in your firmware/UEFI/BIOS settings/generally consult the manual whether it's expected to have an Ethernet device. This is at this point in time completely unrelated to any operating system. You potentially have a broken network controller if you're very unlucky, any PCI error messages in dmesg?

Same issue, any updates?
Offline
What issue? As established the ethernet interface in this particular case never existed. If you think it should, open a new thread and post the lspci -k and potentially lsusb and dmesg outputs from your system.
Offline
It was a defect in the motherboard and it is a warranty case, so I just replaced it.
