Is debuginfod needed when only using gdb?

Hi!

Nothing critical, I was just wondering: in the case someone's only using gdb as debugger, is there any real advantage of installing the debuginfod package over setting the DEBUGINFOD_URLS environment variable?

As I understand from the wiki, gdb will automatically retrieve the info from the address provided in the variable, thus bypassing the need for the debuginfod-find utility entirely?

If I'm reading the wiki correctly that is indeed the case that you don't need it, should be "easily" testable though?
