Re: [solved]xorg won't start

You can link to pictures hosted somewhere else (don't embed them directly), or better yet post logs, like a xorg log to a pastebin site: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/List_o … n_services

This is a very old GPU, from an "official" capacity only supported by the nvidia-340xx package which you'd install from the AUR. This can be a bit involved for someone new, so you should try nouveau first, which would mean you need to uninstall/remove all nvidia packages you currently have installed.

Hello V1del, I have installed just today all packages related to nvidia driver, also by keep only the neouveau driver issue still black screen sad

If I remove all nvidia packages what I should do for fix this kind of issue?

SDDM issue (not consider the 340xx) already removed all driver and now i'm using a nouveau driver but issue is the same wink :

Re: [solved]xorg won't start

Stop running that, there's no need for a xorg config to exist and it's most often more detrimental than helpful if you just run that to have run that.

Re: [solved]xorg won't start

Updated log from trying to startx now? Or does it work? Also general disclaimer, do not run startx or other means of starting Xorg as your root user. While you likely don't have much set up yet this will eventually bite you so just avoid it outright.

Re: [solved]xorg won't start

Then xorg works and you can mark this thread as [SOLVED] by editing the title in your first post, can you start/enable SDDM as well now?

can you start/enable SDDM as well now? --> no if i try to run sddm with command

systemctl start sddm

, display will become black with white rettangle on the corner of the top of the left.

xorg start, yes but without any kind of drivers that means I cannot have a gui interface with this distro?

Re: [solved]xorg won't start

modesetting is not "no driver". Your card should generally work correctly and the nouveau parts are part of the kernel.

After such an SDDM run what's an updated Xorg log  and

systemctl status sddm

?

If you do think that this is a nouveau bug, which is quite possible, and you'd want to set up the nvidia drivers you'd need to install nvidia-340xx-dkms and the relevant {lib32-,}nvidia-340xx-utils variants as well as the kernel headers from the linux-headers package (and for general compat reasons you'll probably want to stick to the LTS kernel to have a stable API to compile against)

1 - run systemctl start sddm
---> here display will show a white rectangle as wrote before
2- ctrl + alt + f2
3 - preforme the login with console
4  run Systemctl status sddm
  ---> now result active

as as you can image issue  related to the black screen still present ( that becase is missing all nvidia / nouveau driver, i think)

normally correctly me if i write somthing wrong, if I try to install nvidia driver SHOULD be visible also the gui screen right? or I have to modify something alse?

Re: [solved]xorg won't start

Please post these outputs, refer to my link from earlier on how to paste logs without a GUI.

There's no inherent guarantee the GUI will work with the nvidia driver, one of the main problems is that technically nvidia-340xx is basically end of support, it's technically already incompatible with the current xorg-server version. It's currently running on the hopes that no important ABI changed by telling the server to ignore the  incompatibility. To get yourself out of that compatibility issue you'd also need to downgrade xorg to a 1.20 variant. However since no one seems to complain too much I'm assuming that is still working for now. In any case getting it to work properly mandates you install these packages properly so you will need linux-headers, nvidia-340xx-dkms and nvidia-340xx-utils at the very least.

Here as well, do not generate a config.
