i tried the dedicated server and it works. that means (if things work out tonight) that can run the server for longer times at once (read: start earlier, but don't necesserily play myself).

That's exactly the advantage of dedicated sever over listening server.

i'll see how the dedicated server works tonite. the dedicated server takes about 20% of my cpu on average. if it's stable, i'll might start it earlier (maybe in the morning) tomorrow.

That much CPU load ? Are you having bots in there ? They usually consume the most CPU time for a server. More important is bandwidth. Very roughly (different for different games, but still similar) each connecting player consumes a few kB/sec. IIRC it were 2-4kB/sec when I measured it.

OK, I checked another source ;-) : http://www.rootforum.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10100 which should be ok for you  - for non-German speakers, they say ca. 5kB/sec per player for CS/Q3/UT

Re: unreal tournament - arch team

yea i got bots to fill it up to 4 players. but i think i'll take them out. if noone's (no real player) there, i think we (archers) will join some other server to practice.

Re: unreal tournament - arch team

are you all sleeping?!

well, i changed the game to deathmatch. that's more fun than onslaught if the interest is not that great. same ip, same password.

i've put some skilled bots in action so i don't get bored.

so get your ass in the cyber-arena!

Re: unreal tournament - arch team

i had the server online for 4 hours, noone joined. i had fun with the bots  roll

the server will be online tomorrow from 8:00 cet til late night - early morning. depends how far i get with drinking  big_smile

i think i'll start running a more-less permanent server in 3-4 months (when i move into my new appartement so the noise doesn't bother me).

now:
deathmatch with some cool mutators.
bots to have at least 4 players (shouldn't be boring to combat them)

i think i'll keep it deathmatch. maybe if we get more players i'll change it.

ip: 80.109.76.233

we could chat @ #ut_arch on freenode...

i hope we'll get this thing moving

Yeh - I still only have the demo, but would like to have a bash. Is there anyway we can stick to the maps in the demo version? Would be nice for us poor people who don't have £30!

Re: unreal tournament - arch team

server online now.

ok, so there IS interest  smile

yea you need the full version :? but it's worth the money. this was the first software i paid for. i decided to do so, because it gvies me an almost endless amount of fun, because of the multiplayer thing. there are a lot of great games (mafia for example), but once you finish the game, you just don't play it anymore. ut IS different. i paid 50 € for the game. the cool thing is that you don't need the dvd/cd to play the game on linux, and the win version is on the same disc. so i bought the game, installed it and sold the dvd to friend for 25 €. and he can borrow it to me in case i need to do a reinstall.

deathmatch is great fun too, there are lots of nice maps.

Hey guys,

i've ordered ut2k4 today @ www.play.com

Unfortunately the price for the dvd-version rised from 17.99 £ to 24.99£. But delivery in europe is free, but it is the first time I ordered there....

So I think it's not to much to buy it...

Joining as soon as the package arrives.....

Mr Green

it doesnt show on the internet list and and i set a password for the same reason: so only archers can eat my bandwith smile

i don't think i can host games (doesnt look too promising  sad ), we could all join some server til one of us manages to run one.

i'm out for today. if any1 stumbles across a good server with enough free slots so some of us can join, post it.

Re: unreal tournament - arch team

Is this game unavailable in the USA?  I stopped by CompUSA, and didn't see it.  So I got Never Winter Nights Gold Edition instead.  They did have UT2003 on sale.

Never expected this was on my distro's forum  big_smile.

Re: unreal tournament - arch team

Hey, count me in!  Every place in town's sold out from preorders, and the first store to get more in today earned my business.  I usually don't do to well on FPS games, but I would actually consider myself mediocre!  Maybe it's just because I'm on Linux, and karma likes that...
