Some AUR programs won't start from KDE shortcuts after latest update

I noticed something very strange, some programs I installed from AUR don't start anymore with their shortcuts in KDE after I updated my system yesterday (a few weeks after the last full update). These include vmware-horizon-client, minecraft-launcher, nbtexplorer-bin and amidst. Although three relates to Minecraft, the packages are unrelated and seem random still. Some other things work, like mcaselector, zoom, google-chrome and easystroke. At least for now.
They work fine if launched from terminal or if I set the shortcuts to run in terminal, but that's a strange workaround. There's no errors also I could find, I only have a single line from systemd in the logs that relates to these when trying to start them from the shortcuts, nothing else. No indication what closes them or what crashes.

Example by journalctl:

Feb 18 08:46:31 atsuko plasmashell[1466]: file:///usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.taskmanager/contents/ui/Task.qml:366: Unable to assign [undefined] to QString
Feb 18 08:46:31 atsuko systemd[1026]: Started VMware Horizon Client.
Feb 18 08:46:31 atsuko plasmashell[1466]: file:///usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.taskmanager/contents/ui/Task.qml:366: Unable to assign [undefined] to QString
Feb 18 08:46:31 atsuko kwin_x11[1108]: qt.qpa.xcb: QXcbConnection: XCB error: 3 (BadWindow), sequence: 62967, resource id: 52429075, major code: 18 (ChangeProperty), minor code: 0
Feb 18 08:46:31 atsuko kwin_x11[1108]: qt.qpa.xcb: QXcbConnection: XCB error: 3 (BadWindow), sequence: 63187, resource id: 52429076, major code: 18 (ChangeProperty), minor code: 0

The rest is before the try and several seconds later, and only one line seem to be related specifically to VMWare, the rest show up if I launch anything else that work. This was the first I noticed it with and according to the vmware-horizon-client page on AUR this is something to do with some sandboxing, but I can't find anything trying to Google it, I get a million totally irrelevant results to whatever I try on what this even means or how to disable it, not to mention I can't tell if it's a KDE bug or the AUR maintainers have to do something... and I also couldn't find any other report of this problem.

What could be going on here?

Re: Some AUR programs won't start from KDE shortcuts after latest update

You should generally reboot (or restart plasma/KDE) if you've gotten updated KDE (especially frameworks) as components might rely on outdated libs they can no longer find on the disk. Did you do that? If you did post

pacman -Qg kf5
pacman -Qg plasma
pacman -Qg qt5

Re: Some AUR programs won't start from KDE shortcuts after latest update

I have the same issue. After the KDE update of 3 days ago... amarok won't start from KDE panel shortcuts... only if i launch it in a terminal window.

When I click on the amarok KDE panel shortcuts a KDE notification appears telling me a generic error 100 org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown.
From terminal instead, everything worked as expected...

My system has been rebooted several times but the problem still persists.

Re: Some AUR programs won't start from KDE shortcuts after latest update

ah fuck why doesn't this include versions.

Some more general info

loginctl session-status

how are you starting your session exactly? What's the environment of your shell and e.g. the plasma process?

printenv
tr '\0' '\n' < /proc/$(pidof plasmashell)/environ

Edit: hmm I can repro with Amarok, though the autostart I have enabled for it works.

Amarok works if you disable DBusActivatable= in the desktop file, is that the case for your failing services as well? Respectively seems to be an issue with the URL handlers, do your broken desktop files have that on the Exec line, e.g. %U

This looks like a hackfix: https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kio/- … 705ad32d17

... or possibly the cause, as the mentioned commit should be part of 5.91, anyway this is likely something borked in KIO there have been some fixes in this direction and 5.92 got tagged, maybe it fixes this, didn't actively test yet

Re: Some AUR programs won't start from KDE shortcuts after latest update

Sorry for the delay...

It was indeed the 'DBusActivatable=true' in the desktop file.

I removed it then destroyed the previous amarok panel shortcut and created a new shortcut.
Now everything works as before.

Thank you so much... i didn't know.

Re: Some AUR programs won't start from KDE shortcuts after latest update

I don't have DBusActivatable in any of my .desktop files, and setting DBusActivatable=false doesn't do anything.

Here's my vmware-view.desktop

[Desktop Entry]
Categories=Application;Network;
Comment[en_US]=Connect to VMware Horizon View virtual machines
Comment=Connect to VMware Horizon View virtual machines
Encoding=UTF-8
Exec=vmware-view
GenericName[en_US]=
GenericName=
Icon=vmware-horizon
MimeType=
Name[en_US]=VMware Horizon Client
Name=VMware Horizon Client
Path=
StartupNotify=true
Terminal=false
TerminalOptions=
Type=Application
X-DBUS-ServiceName=
X-DBUS-StartupType=unique
X-KDE-SubstituteUID=false
X-KDE-Username=

Tried with commenting out the X-DBUS variables, nothing changed, also tried with "Exec=vmware-view %u" but no change.
