Enabling references in Wiki?

Hi,
I'm a new forum user and I'd like to contribute to the wiki.
As I'm used to contribute to Wikipedia, I tried to use references/footnotes, but even if there is the "Reference" button on the toolbar, the references are not displayed properly.
The tags <ref> , </ref> , and </references>  are displayed as normal text, so I was wondering why this feature hasn't been enabled smile

The feature is provided by the Cite extension. See https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/ArchWi … _extension for the discussion about it.

Ok, I see that six years ago the main concern was maintenance, but now as highlighted by TylerSzabo, Cite is shipped by default with MediaWiki (same for syntax highlighting as said by Zaroth).
Maybe it is time to reopen the discussion? wink

Ok, I've added a comment on the wiki talk: what about enabling it now, as maintenance is not a concern anymore?
