I am noticing occasional video breakup with the latest nouveau driver in Firefox (example: when encountering any disqus CAPTCHA image during the image selection process.) Breakup is very bad with a resource-intensive app like Google Earth. I use jriver-media-center (28) and have had multiple image fracturing in that app. I have also had a few total system freezes as well this week, suspecting that nouveau may have been the culprit. Hard to know. I tried to move over to the nvidia-470xx-dkms driver with nvidia-470xx-utils today and ran into a problem with "Missing (various) kernel headers for module nvidia/470.103.01. "
The failed install generates a list of errors as follows:

I do have multiple drives mounted (with no problems) as I have dedicated each category of personal files (Docs, photos, videos. etc.) to their own SSD.
I am surprised to see that the error involves kernel headers relative to each of the boot drive's root directories. I am using a new Samsung NVMe 970Pro w/o issues.
I do have linux-headers 5.16.10.arch1-1 installed with no prior issues, but I suspect that linux-headers is not what the errors are referring to.
If anyone is having similar issues migrating from a buggy nouveau over to nvidia's proprietary, albeit dkms, driver for these older cards, any criticisms would be appreciated.

What is the output of `mount`?

pacman -Qikk dkms
ls -l /usr/lib/modules
cat /etc/dkms/framework.confOffline
Thanks for prior replies.
The output of the three commands member Seth requested is here: http://sprunge.us/i9fhXe

There's no apparent reason (left) for dkms or the pacaman hook to consider your root path to be the install dir.
If the error remains, post the installed /usr/src/nvidia-*/dkms.conf and try to build the package w/o trizen or any other AUR helper that might sed around in the PKGBUILD.

Firstly, let me thank you all for your helpful replies. Secondly, I just figured it couldn't hurt to uninstall and reinstall the linux-headers as 'nvidia headers' were mentioned in the original error output. I reinstalled and rebooted and then installed the 470xx driver, utils, and settings without a pacman helper and without incident. I have to assume that there was a corruption that was either corrected by installing a fresh copy of linux-headers, or by installing the nvidia driver the old-fashioned way. I've not experienced corruption due to errors introduced by the use of a pacman helper before, but this may have been tbe first time. I won't be using trizen or yay, etc., when installing from the AUR repo when that installation involves critical drivers in the furture.

Please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.

Thanks again to Seth for advice on marking threads *resolved.* I don't have a need to use this or any forum much, but when I do, I'll be sure to signal that there's no task left.
