[SOLVED] Tearing when scrolling and during videos

I'm having tearing issues when I scroll in librewolf and watch youtube videos. I use AMD Ryzen 3 3200g along with its internal graphics, installed xf86-video-fbdev package but it didn't solve anything and the other recommendations in the wiki are for GPU-only. Does anyone have any idea what I should do?

Re: [SOLVED] Tearing when scrolling and during videos

xf86-video-fbdev is certainly wrong for an APU, the question is whether you're using xf86-video-amdgpu or not
Is this all librewolf? Do you get tearing in mpv + yt-dlp or youtube-viewer? Chromium?

Re: [SOLVED] Tearing when scrolling and during videos

I installed the xf86-video-amdgpu package and rebooted the pc afterwards (just in case), download a video and played it using mpv and used youtube on Brave browser. I still have the problem, nothing has changed.

If this information helps...

 lspci -v | grep -A1 -e VGA -e 3D
08:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Picasso/Raven 2 [Radeon Vega Series / Radeon Vega Mobile Series] (rev c9) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device 876b

Re: [SOLVED] Tearing when scrolling and during videos

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Ryzen# … ring_(APU) ?
And elaborate on the environment, notbaly whether there's a compositor.
Post an xorg log and the output of "xrandr -q"

Also try

mpv -vo=gpu --video-sync=display-resample porn.mp4

(in case it's more judder than tearing, though that would not fit scrolling in the browser)

Re: [SOLVED] Tearing when scrolling and during videos

I don't have a compositor yet.

Re: [SOLVED] Tearing when scrolling and during videos

[  1655.325] (==) Log file: "/home/rafael/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.1.log", Time: Mon Feb 21 11:29:51 2022

The log is dated.
Did you attempt the tearfree setting?
Is the 1360x768 output directy connected to the DP output or is that some TV attached via an adapter?

Re: [SOLVED] Tearing when scrolling and during videos

Oh, sorry didn't notice that. The resolution is connected to a VGA output, i just have an old monitor.

I tried the tearfree setting, but there was not a 20-amdgpu.conf, so i just created one and typed everything like in the wiki:

Section "Device"
        Identifier "AMD"
        Driver "amdgpu"
        Option "TearFree" "true"
        EndSection

Re: [SOLVED] Tearing when scrolling and during videos

The resolution is connected to a VGA output, i just have an old monitor.

Is this through an adapter (as the output is labeled DisplayPort) and are you facing a (somewhat) static tearline rather than tearing that wildly changes its vertical position?

Re: [SOLVED] Tearing when scrolling and during videos

It's just a standard VGA cable, there's no adapter. And i'm facing tearing, there's no fixed tearline.

Re: [SOLVED] Tearing when scrolling and during videos

That may seem weird, but I just turned my pc on now and the tearing is gone, even during scrolling. Thank you so much for your help.
