[SDDM] No background when I connect

Hello.

The title fits perfectly the problem, when I log on to my PC, I don't see any background if not a disturbing white one on the screen. I tried lot of times to reintroduce my custom background via system settings, but it doesn't seem to save the new configuration. I also tried to edit the SDDM file related to that, same thing.

Any idea?

That's not really telling anything, post your sddm.conf. Where is your background image located? You need to give a path accessible to the sddm user which will typically rule out a direct path in e.g. your home dir

My background is located in /home/user/.system/. That's where I put my system-related customizations like sound effects or images. Here's the sddm.conf.

Sorry this one fell off a bit.

You probably need to put that image into /usr/share/sddm/themes/${yourtheme}/image.png and have a themes.user.conf with

[General]
background=image
type=image

You'd probably have to actively set the theme you want to use relevantly, are there any overrides in /etc/share/sddm.conf.d that aren't in the file you posted?

Well, I remember that it worked perfectly before. What a pity I couldn't keep the image into the .system folder.
The themes.user.conf contains the exact same text you just quoted, and I tried to put an absolute file to my original image ; it worked this time, but the background image isn't adapted to the screen and so it doesn't match to the SDDM interface.

I also feel like there's a bug into the system settings panel, because I couldn't find my image into /usr/share/sddm/themes/(mytheme). A failing code must probably prevent the panel to export the selected image into this folder, even with full permissions (I chmod'd the folder to 777, same thing happens).

Are you actually using your own theme or are you using one of the builtin themes and just changing the background? If you are using your own theme, then you have to configure KDE to use that but you have to google on how to do it and the theme would probably need to reside in .local/share/plasma or ./ocal/share/sddm.
On the other hand if you are using a default theme, like Breeze for example, and just changing the background, then just set Breeze as the default theme in System Settings then put your own background image in /usr/shame/sddm//themes/breeze.  Then in that directory, edit theme.conf.user like:

background=<your image>.jpg
type=image

I'm not sure it's a good idea to have plasma stuff in a custom localized .system directory for plasma stuff because you will need a way to tell plasma where things reside and it might work in the beginning but will probably break on subsequent upgrade. If you want the theme to be persistent, then you probably have to build your own custom theme, install it in plasma then choose it as your default theme in System Settings. I'm not sure if there is a bug here.
