I've installed mozilla-firefox 1.5.0.7 and mplayer-plugin-3.31-1 and firefox did not find the mplayer plugin. The plugins are in /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins, while firefox is looking for them on /opt/mozilla/lib/firefox/plugins. To fix the problem, I moved /opt/mozilla/lib/firefox/plugins/* to /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins. Then, i removed /opt/mozilla/lib/firefox/plugins and replaced it with a symbolic link to /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins.
I wonder, why didn't the mozilla-firefox package take care of this.
Oh boy!

I reckon it is actually a problem with the mplayer-plugin package, because it is putting the files in the wrong place. Perhaps file a bug report?

You need to source /etc/profile.d/mozilla-common.sh, without that, mozilla programs don't know where plugins are located. The file gets sourced when you login.
