bluetooth started stuttering after months of great

Tested in web browser youtube,netflix. In spotify Desktop application.

Two different Bluetooth headphones sets.

Disconnected, untrusted, unpaired, re-trusted, re-paired, reconnected 

Rebooted system

Sound crackles and stutters, quality dropping and rising.

Any chance you are using Gnome?   This may be applicable to other DEs as well.

When it crackles and stutters, have you a window open that is showing a Bluetooth site survey (Is it showing a list of nearby devices?)   In my experience, the act of updating such a list causes 'crackles' and dropouts.
