Am I using fsync? (Wine)

I just installed Arch Linux on a PC with an Nvidia GTX 1080-Ti and a Ryzen 3900XT. The system is fully up to date.

I installed Lutris (lutris 0.5.9.1-5), Wine (wine 7.4-1), the Nvidia drivers (package "nvidia") and I installed "World of Warcraft (Classic)". In the game options, I have selected Wine version "System (7.4)".

When I try to enable "Fsync" in the same dialog, I get an error popup that says "The Wine build you have selected does not support Fsync. Please switch to an Fsync-capable version."

I have been Googling this for a while, getting extremely mixed messages. Some people say Wine needs a special build to enable Fsync, other people make it sound like it's available by default in all new versions. Which is true?

If I ignore Lutris' warning and set WINEFSYNC=1 myself, how do I know if it's actually enabled?

wine as is from the repos doesn't include fsync patches afaik. What's "enabled by default" are the necessary kernel patches, you'll still need an appropriately adjusted wine fsync build, which lutris should provide in some shape or form.

Yep it seems you're right. I just discovered the "Manage wine versions" dialog in Lutris and installed the newest "lutris-fshack" wine version. It now lets me enable Fsync and I can see "fsync: up and running." in the logs. (Right clicked the game in Lutris and clicked "Show logs".)

Is the same true for Esync, or should I be able to enable that on any recent Wine version?

Re: Am I using fsync? (Wine)

Pretty sure the same is true there, but afaik fsync basically supplants esync for most practical purposes, and there should be no benefit to opt for a esync build if fsync is available.
