Yeah, my 5700XT died from bad VRAM and is out of warranty so I had to borrow a 580 until I can scrimp enough to buy a new one.
Right now I'm having to run a dual boot Windows because on Linux, it really sucks. It has no vulkan support at all so anything Proton/Wine is a no go (even with swrast), if I force proton to use Wine D3D then games will run but even stuff as simple as Crash N Sane trilogy runs at less than 10FPS (on Windows its runs 1080p High and a solid 60).
I have tried the nvidia-390xx-dkms driver but honestly, that runs worse than Nouveau.
I'm not expecting miracles but the difference in perf from Windows to Linux is silly. I just tested GTA VC DE on Windows, 1080p, medium preset, solid 40+fps. Same game on Linux via Lutris, 720p, low and still only getting ~15fps at most.
Is there something obvious I'm missing or am I doomed to gaming on Windows for a few months? (ewww)

Check whether you can configure the games to use D3D9 as renderer when you opt for wined3d, that's the best you can do. OpenGL wined3d for DX11 has always been quite taxing/bad. And make sure your 32bit (i.e. lib32-nvidia-390xx-utils) are actually properly set up (which renderer do you get from
glxinfo32 -BAlso you definitely do want nvidia-390xx here, nouveau can't clock up, and while you might get a hit for perceived desktop perf, gaming should definitely increase.
