I am looking for information on Dolphin and SFTP. Specifically on how to limit Dolpin from opening so many source ports when connecting to a SFTP server, but my googlefoo is failing me. What is obvious is that Dolphin is very chatty and opens multiple source ports in quick succession to sftp servers when browsing folders.
If the destination server has firewall rules that tarpit ip's that send too many incoming connections from different source ports too quickly this can be a problem. The symptom you see is that you can browse folders for a few seconds but then just hangs.
For example I connect to a server that tarpits the incoming connection for 60 seconds if too many new connection attempts are made in quick succession. Looking at wireshark if I compare filezilla or pcmanfm connection attempts are much lower compared to dolphin.
Filezilla opens one port in the 50000 range and uses that port only when connecting to the SFTP server. Browse folders in Filezilla and it uses only that one connection.
Start browsing folders with Dolphin and it starts opening multiple source ports in the 40000 range quickly and if the destination server limits these incoming connection attempts it firewalls you off. There are some old threads out there from 2010 that talk about this but I don't see any resolutions.
Is this just the way it is with Dolphin? I can't seem to find any information on how to change this behaviour. I haven't sniffed other protocols, but I assume this is just default behaviour for Dolphin when connecting to network resources.
