Hi!
I use a laptop and have two extra old screens on the side.
I want both of them plugged in, so I have to use an HDMI splitter.
Each screen works normally when connected to the laptop directly, but when i use the HDMI splitter, they seem to be treated as one screen.
The best I've gotten so far is a duplicated image, and I would like each of the screens to be a separate workspace.
Here's the xrandr output:

DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)I couldn't find a post dealing with this issue, so feel free to direct me elsewhere.
Thanks in advance!

I'm afraid that's the concept and design of a HDMI splitter - you're not getting another output or CRTC.
Why don't you use DP-1 (in doubt using a DP to HDMI converter)?
Online
HDMI Splitters just split the video signal and send it to the various screens. To xorg, there are not 2 screens plugged into the HDMI port. It's one screen, and it outputs video on it. Xorg has no way to use the HDMI splitter to turn one display output into to separate outputs. That's just not what the splitters do.

I have a ThinkPad E15 Gen 2, so unless I'm missing something, I only have the one HDMI port.
Would it work if I plugged the HDMI-DP cable into the splitter? Is that what you're getting at or am I misunderstanding?

The output might not be wired to a jack or the DP and HDMI output share a jack.
In any event: "no" - adding an adapter to the splitter won't do anything. The splitter is effectively a Y-cable.
Edit: the DP is probably forwarded from the USB-C dock available for the notebook. Which would allow you to have a multiscreen output (as will, potentially, a USB-C to DP adapter - at the cost of the usb port)

Oof.
I might invest into one of those docking station things eventually, but the 3 monitor dream is goin on hold for a while I guess.
Thanks for the replies :)
