BIOS fan control berserk & inaccessible

It's a laptop that has BIOS control a single fan. When I unplug the Nvidia GPU card the fan becomes very erratic - it works for a little while then shuts down completely, then starts from zero to full power for a little while, just not smooth operation. It may be that this is due to the fact that BIOS integrates two sets of sensors - from CPU and from GPU but since GPU sensors are unplugged it messes the fan operation up.
The question is - is it possible to interface with BIOS fan operation without disassembling BIOS? I see CPU sensors but the fan does not show up.
