Plasma not able to start new programs after suspend

Hello,

I have a strange error. When I have the PC in suspend for some time and wake it up, I cannot start new programs anymore. Restarting programs works fine.

It can be solved temporarily by reinstalling xcb... but to do that every time the computer was in suspend would be a little annoying.

Also I do believe it only happens when the PC is in suspend for a longer time (like an hour or something).

Did look in the journalctl and found a bunch of those errors

Okay, got the solution. Somehow KDE could not handle DRM-content from Firefox (Disney+ in this case) going to suspend, somehow messing the whole system up. Restarting the browser does allow me to open programs once again.

Edit: Or maybe it's Signal, since just now it only worked after closing off Signal. well... whatever.

The problem started to emerge more frequently again. Can't even restart via Plasma anymore, gotta do a "systemctl reboot now" to be able to start new programs now.

Journalctl shows a system-core-dump when I try to start new programs after suspending:

It does start again when I close another program. It's quite annoying, all in all. If there are any other infos that could help, please ask. I have no idea what this issue might be about.

The absolute number isn't so important - it's just one way to figure whether Xorg collects connections.
xlsclients will however list all clients (iirc the default max is 256) and you probably will also be able to spot a pattern for a culprit when you reached that maximum.

But none more. Starting thunderbird heightened the output of lsof to 483. Apparantly thunderbird needs 12 of... whatever we are counting here, while Konsole only needs 4, that's why it could be started. So I would concluded that the maximum amount that number can reach before no more programs can be started must be 484 or 485.

Shutting down all programs so xlsclients doesn't have any output at all leads to lsof still having the output of 423.

Logging out and back in lowers the count to 189.

Okay. So after going out I went back in and the monitor was dark, as it should be, but not suspended. However, the output of lsof did rise from 228 to 281 for no apparant reason, with xlsclients still showing the same clients as before: Steam and evolution-alarm-notify. The evolution-alarm-notify, which I do not use or need, seems to be the only constant here, so I deleted the autostart file in /etc/xdg/autostart. Maybe...

konsole will by default not run another client if there's a running one but just tell that one to spawn another window.

xlsclients looks harmless enough, but the open file development is suspicious, yes.
Some client probably leaves stale connections.
Maybe xrestop can point you to a PID/Identifier - or there're dormant processes in ps aux?
Otherwise my best idea would be to kill X11 clients (plasma will have drstically more than listed in your xlsclients output…)  one by one until the lsof count drastically drops for one.
