Window in Brave

Hello people,

one knows why when I want to download any file, I get this window, It does not let me rename the file, and only shows me the search bar, because it uses this type of window that is not native to my desktop, I use cinnamon and figure another kind of window. Can someone explain what I can do? To show me a native window to my cinnamon desk, or let me rename the file when downloading

Re: Window in Brave

That's the file chooser and that is the GTK file chooser. That is "native" as far as that goes and you can't replace the file chooser with the file manager you might be thinking of.

In chromium/brave's case you can technically configure it to use the KDE's  kdialog instead., which is also not native but more usable IMO, you can do that by installing kdialog and overriding XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP by e.g. starting chromium with

 XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=KDE chromium

Re: Window in Brave

Ftr, you can edit the name, the keybord focus is just not on the name field, despite the selection highlight.

Why, how, when or for what reasons that thing decides to initiate the focus on the file tree, triggering the filter ony typing, is beyond me - and so is the selection indication behavior.
But clicking the name field on the top should™ pass it there and allow you to edit the name.

That's just what I do, I select the field above to rename the file and this automatically switches to the search as shown in the image.

Re: Window in Brave

I already did, replace the chromium with brave I guess. Install kdialog and then try starting brave from a terminal in the way I specifiec, you should have a different file picker at the least.

Re: Window in Brave

You need to make sure that there's no running chromium process to have the XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP export any effect.
Other than that: yeah - the gtk file dialog sucks big time. We all suffer from that.

Re: Window in Brave

I have this problem too with Chrome & Brave(based on Chrome).  It is working in firefox.
It doesn't work when I login with i3, openbox, lxqt.  But it's working in a Gnome login.
It only happens on the save dialog.  The open dialog is working.

This is a recent thing, it was working before I updated the packages.

When I type something in, it loses focus on the text box and goes to search box instead.
https://youtu.be/8BopZtntTZA

The way around it is to constantly click on the file name text box for every letter that I type in.

Re: Window in Brave

I've fixed this up on my computer, here's what I did.  kill all the xdg-desktop-portal... processes.

ps ax | grep xdg-desktop-portal

Close all the windows of the browser, make sure all the browser processes have exited.

Restart the browser.
If it works without xdg-desktop-portal... then remove those packages.
