Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everyone, I'm from Canada, 15 years old. I started with Ubuntu, 3 months ago. I put it on a 75gb partition first, just wanted to try it out, and I liked it! After this I decided to try Linux mint. I loved it, put it on my main disk instead of Windows 10. After this I decided to try installing Arch Linux, but I first tried on a virtual machine. Attempt #1 failed, had issues with grub. Attempt #2 was a success, so I decided to install Arch Linux instead of Mint. Been using Arch for a month now, and I really love it, but setting up USB WiFi which had a Realtek chip was a pain.. Also, the Arch Linux logo looks very cool.

Always refreshing to see young talent.  I started with computers at about your age in the '70s.  I hope they treat you as well as they have treated me.

I just realized all my posts has been in the newbie corner for four years. ごめんなさい. My computer can type in Japanese now (kana mode) after the two year absence. Hello again, I have forgot all of your faces, worn out faces, bright and early for their daily races going nowhere, going nowhere. ♪(^∇^*)

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi everyone,
I'm from Austria, 51 years old and came a long way from Commodore C64 -> PC/DOS -> PC Windows (in all kinds) -> Apple (long time user)....
I've been using (or let's say: trying ou) Linux in various distributions for years, but recentrly I began to use it beside my Apple-stuff (and of course the Win-stuff for business tasks) regularly. My playground so far was Pop!OS but then I wanted to give Arc-Linux a try a here I'm...

Really cool so far, I love to have more control about my system than "click & forget" - so I'm not a classic newbie but will need lot of research and support for sure ;-)

Nice to be here...

Axel

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi Everyone,
I am from Derby in the UK (the bit furthest from the sea)

I have been using linux since about 2002, several flavours.  I am crap at using linux, and can never fix anything. I really don't understand the man pages (I am sure they are written as 'reminder note to self' by/for devs), my google searches reveal things that are closish but not close enough to help.  I am here to break 20 years of being more successful it making my computer work better in other os's.  I am here to upskill, I gather arch is the place to do this.

Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone wink, I'm a high school student from China.
I've been using arch for 5 months. Arch is the best OS I've  ever used.
But it seems I'm the only one using arch among my fellow classmates hmm

Hi,
I'm from Italy, 24 years old, I work as a Java developer but also deal with Linux, mainly Bash.
I entered the Linux world 6 years ago with Ubuntu 16.04, and never leaved smile
I tried various distros, even some obscure one like Tiny Core Linux, but I think, objectively, Arch is the best!
What I really like about Arch are the lightness (I've installed it on a Pentium 4 PC with 1GB of RAM, and it runs really well!), the freedom of choice given to the user, common to every Linux distro but higher in Arch, and pacman big_smile

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi everyone,

I just registered a few days ago. Am from The Netherlands, 35 yo atm. Grown up with Windows, started using Linux about 12 years ago, used mostly Mint. Now it is time to move on I decided, Arch is the next step. Unfortunately ran into trouble right away, not because of Arch but rather due to system configuration/kernel combination.

Liking Arch so far, especially the documentation.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

hi all

i installed arch a few days ago, after many trials. i sadly lost all my data due to a drive fault and then i decide to ditch the dual boot and go 100% arch.
i choose arch because i like the core ideas, especially modernity and pragmatism.
i love simplicity too but sadly i learnt it's not my best asset. i like philosophy and solving problems.

the arch wiki is simply amazing <3

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi! I am new to Arch! I initially wanted to use Arch 4 years ago, but I didnt dare try. After 5 years with Ubuntu, I have decided to #yolo dive deeper into Linux and do-things-myself. Some things broke but I managed to fixed them with the help of the Wiki. I learned a lot on the way. No regrets on Day 2 so far

Welcome to the Arch community !

When I made the switch from Debian to Arch it took me more than just a few tries before I had my first Arch install up and running. That was 3-1/2 years ago and now I have my own installation program that I created from scratch. You will reach that point too if you are willing to be adventurous and learn from your mistakes. The real beauty of Arch is that it forces you to go under the hood and that in turn makes you a better ( and smarter ) Linux user.

An Arch user at 14? That's awesome! Are you going to be a Linux guru?

Hello world! I'm 14 years old, a new Arch user from India, I'm not exactly a Linux noob, though I'm no expert either.
I've been using Zorin OS as main for 6 months now and I'm loving it. I just tried Arch on a VM and I've come to like it as well.

Fun fact: I used the guided Arch installer.

Glad to be here!

Welcome !

Its great to see young people here. Did you find the guided installer helpful? I have been wondering about that. I use a custom installer that I began developing about a year ago.

Yes sir, very much. It saved me time and trouble, but I will surely use the unguided installer after I get acquainted with Arch Linux.

That's good to hear. Once I figure out how to do something I like to record it in a script. I will have a look at the guided installer to see how it does things. I am always looking for ways to improve my own installer.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

I am humbled to join the community of people who are likely smarter than me.

After 15 years of Ubuntu - a distro, which's rampant progression of obesity symptoms is quite disappointing - I am happy to have Arch on my workstation as a primary OS.
