System sounds not playing

Hi everyone,

Just installed Arch with KDE Plasma. I'm coming from Windows, but I do have some prior (and obsolete) experience with Linux from some years ago.

As the title reads, I'm not getting any system sounds played. I have installed both pulseaudio and pulseaudio-alsa.

The weird thing is that pavucontrol shows no output device for system sounds, just an empty space, while for Firefox playing YouTube I do have that choice.
(I would attach a screenshot but I can't figure out how, there are no upload controls and the clipboard is not working here, like on other forums).

By system sounds I'm expecting tput bel, for example, to generate a sound.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Re: System sounds not playing

@anchovy:
Everything is unmuted there, already did that. I did read that document before posting here. I'm emphasizing the fact that pavucontrol->Playback shows no device option for System Sounds, as it does for all other playing software. I find this weird, as I should be able to chose which device should play the System Sounds.

Off topic: how do I add a screenshot to my post?! This forum is weird on this aspect, no paste, no upload.

This forum doesn't host images. You need to upload to an image sharing site and post a link to it on here.

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan

Oh, I get it, thanks.

EDIT: so I added an img tag on my next post and nothing shows up.
EDIT2: figured it out.

I wish this image thing was simpler, like on any other forum.
