{solved}Arch/Windows Dual boot Wifi/Bluetooth Issue

Alright, so everytime i use a bluetooth device on my arch linux distro, the next time i boot into windows my wifi/bluetooth adapter which is built in to my motherboard no longer apears (windows error 45 device not detected if i look at hidden devices) on arch (well kde plasma rly) it simply says no devices detected, last time this happened i was able to get it to detect it again after using a bluetooth usb stick and then rebooting but it didnt work this time. and id prefer this problem wasnt persistent, the last time it happened i was on the 16.2 kernel, now i am on the current kernel updated right before this happened yesterday. so it happening with that distant timespan should rule out a kernel issue (maybe?) i dont 100% know that its every time i use bluetooth on the linux side that this happens, but the 2 times this has now happens its been

step a. connect xbox controller to arch
step b. turn off computer later in the evening
step c when i go to connect a bluetooth device on windows i realize the bluetooth and wifi options on windows are gone and i panic.

was really hoping last time was a fluke it was several months ago but here we are, HELP

have tried reinstalling drivers on windows, updating motherboard bios, and checking on windows side the hardware hidden devices in which it shows error 45 device not detected, on kde plasma it just says no devices detected in bluetooth menu.
Bios detects the wifi adapter and says its working (if im understanding the bios info right, it certainly lists the adapter, and doesnt list the word "error")

edit:to be clear if there are other troubleshooting steps to do on kde/arch then i am not avoiding them, i just dont know what they would be so i did what i know first

edit2:should clarify, i dont know that it would happen with any bluetooth device, both times this happened it was an xbox controller, dont think thats relevant but its a weird issue so should be specific

Re: {solved}Arch/Windows Dual boot Wifi/Bluetooth Issue

k read up on that, that does explain why i had trouble once or twice repairing after switching installs, but i dont see how that would outright make the lan controller disapear completely from lspci and windows hardware devices.

lspci -k output (unfortunately i dont have the output prior to the issue)

        Kernel modules: snd_hda_intel

edit: also doesnt show up using iwctl command in the arch install media says no devices
edit2: actually i dont think it is showing up in bios cause im not seeing a mac address... shit. intermittent hardware issue with extremely coincidental timing? anybody know if the wifi card is typically sautered on the board or what im getting into fixing that? my motherboard is an amazon refurbished so... no "warrenty" of any sort

Re: {solved}Arch/Windows Dual boot Wifi/Bluetooth Issue

Please wrap the lspci into code tags, https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#bbcode
It's also the first time you mention "lspci", though BT is typically wired on USB, the wifi chip "maybe" as well.

Windows fast-start is a problem because it leaves HW in an undefined state and from there on a lot of things can happen and the wifi is a typical casualty (but typically non-fatal, the system just gets confused about the power state)
If you were to eg. hibernate linux and boot/resume windows from there the same thing happens in reverse.

Make sure to (disable fast-start and) shutown windows and linux properly, pull the power plug, wait a little while, restart the system, make sure the device shows in the BIOS and isn't disabled there, boot linux and check lspci/lsusb

Re: {solved}Arch/Windows Dual boot Wifi/Bluetooth Issue

What are you using for Network connections, Network Manager, Connman or DCHP, I ask as your situation sounds similar to what happened when I tried using Connman without disabling Network Manager first, up until I disabled Connman I had to manually connect any wifi connections and activate the driver manually in settings, and that 1 bad systemctl autostart also made the Bluetooth act up. Also make sure you install
/Update Bluez, Bluez-utils and Bluedevil packages as well. Ur bios likely had nothing to do with it, unless you for some reason have "Onboard LAN" turned on in the Bios/UEFI menu. Side note I don't know Windows, I deleted it and downloaded Linux the second I plugged it into the wall, but I'm guessing all you have to do is Download drivers from Microsoft or the manufacturers website, just stay out of the Bios if you're unsure, that's 1 easy way to make it so All Distros or operating systems u may have or install, have issues.

Re: {solved}Arch/Windows Dual boot Wifi/Bluetooth Issue

@seth: edited (correcting myself) fast start got re-enabled by the windows update i just ran, with that said it should have been off prior to that and the issue started before that update ran, still that does mean theres a possibility, will definitly shut it down for the night and unplug see if stuff works properly tomorrow morning, was still disabled in the bios just was on in windows power plan settings

@blackarchnet: Network Manager, i looked through what i have installed and i do not apear to have any conflicting/alternative software, and i cant manually connect to wifi either, and um onboard lan is turned on in bios would that be the problem? i assumed that you wanted that on? gonna go try turning that off it sounds counter intuitive to me, i dont know if it was on before but it definitly was after my bios update so thats a thought
edit: yeah disabling the onboard lan just made me have no network devices on arch or windows so that is definitly not a solution, downloading bluez-utils now other two were up to date

Idk If the Onboard LAN would cause an error, give it a shot, but you definitely shouldn't have it on if you don't need to have it on. Might not be the issue but it definitely slows down your system if you are using Ethernet, and if your only using WiFi you definitely don't need it on. Also open a terminal and try this without quotes just to make sure "systemctl enable NetworkManager.service" or "systemctl enable NetworkManager -f" and make sure DCHP is disabled as well from Arch. If need be and ur able can also force internet by Just directly connecting to the modem with an Ethernet, worth a shot if u have access to it.

Edit: If you can use Pacman on Arch and install drivers on Windows, i doubt bios is the issue, sorry didn't read ur edit until now, so ur good there most likely, if possible I'd start from scratch if nothing else works and nobody else has a better ideas, if you got a copy of windows install disk. Arch is free those windows disks are far from the same.

Glad to hear, I don't understand how fast boot affected it, but it works so whatever lol.

Fast-boot in your firmware menu and fast-boot with regards to Windows are completely different things - they just happen to be called the same thing (thanks Microsoft).

The fast-boot in your firmware menu just disables some of the self-checks that the machine does when it powers on.

What Windows calls fast-boot is actually the same thing is hibernation in Linux (it just closes down the running applications first) - it leaves the wireless hardware in an undefined state which only it knows about meaning Linux can't then initialise it properly.
