Gnome Session crashes when closing apps from overview

Hi,

If I swipe up to overview in Gnome, then use the little X to close an open window, the session crashes to a black screen with white boxes. Reproducible every time (Wayland only, OK on Xorg session)

I don't see it in https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues , anyone else experiencing this ?

Re: Gnome Session crashes when closing apps from overview

Unable to replicate.  Gnome, logged in from gdm.  Wayland session and Intel graphics.  Gnome 42.1

Chrome maximized, Use keyboard shortcuts to open a terminal and a Nautilus window.  Shove mouse pointer into upper left corner, overview appears, click close box on ternimal, window closes, windows rearrange, click close on Nautilus, window closes,  Browser window centers.  Click on Browser window, overview closes and browser window maximizes.

Re: Gnome Session crashes when closing apps from overview

Strange, still happening here every time. All extensions are disabled (themes etc..)

Anything in journalctl that could point to the cause ? I can't figure it out

[edit]

Well now it's not happening anymore..... Go figure....
Still, is there anything in the log that can point to a problem from my side ?

Thanks !

Re: Gnome Session crashes when closing apps from overview

Any chance you updated something critical to Gnome without having logged out and back in?
Or may even something requiring a reboot? (Usually kernel related)

Re: Gnome Session crashes when closing apps from overview

No, it was consistent across reboots. Very strange.

Re: Gnome Session crashes when closing apps from overview

I think this is the issue you were seeing: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-sh … ssues/5305. A workaround is to enable 'Enable Animations' in the Accessibility settings. A fix should be released with Mutter 42.1 from what I gathered from the discussions on the different tickets.
