I have a GT730. I had been using the nvidia-390xx driver for a long time without problem, except that from time to time I had to remove it and reinstall it. Today it's no longer working. I removed and reinstalled several times, and I can still not get into graphics mode. I tried the nouveau driver (which used to work imperfectly), it does not work either. I also tried the regular nvidia driver (which never worked) with no success either. I finally downloaded the appropriate driver directly from the nvidia web site, and wwhen trying to install I get the following message:
ERROR: An error occurred while performing the step: "Building kernel modules". See /var/log/nvidia-installer.log for details.The log file shows multiple times:

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.stAlso check "dkms status" and compare the running kernel version (uname -a)

maybe 470xxx will help (which is especially for the GT730) ?

Depends on which GT730 there are multiple variations of that and there is one that is not Kepler and only supported by 390xx

The first command does not work (blank screen doing nothing) unless I remove the part after -b. The error messages about nvidia are:

how long did you wait for the journalctl command to complete? Are you using some non-default shell? Can you reach 0x0.st with e.g. a ping? If you can't access snippet sharing sites, can you copy on paste the journalctl -b output (use xclip or disable the pager with --no-pager) here?
FWIW if dkms status does not give you output, are you literally reinstalling the nvidia-390xx package manually everytime? You can alleviate that by just installing nvidia-390xx-dkms which will take care of rebuilds whenever the kernel updates.
Post the output of
pacman -Qs 'nvidia|linux.*headers'as well.

suggest that the dkms status will tell you that there's no module for the 5.17.5 kernel?

My best guess is that the journal is toolong™ and you're hitting some quota.
Try "sudo dmesg | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st" but it's already very likely that you failed to build an kernel module, so elaborate on how you approach this and maybe whether there was some error in that process which you have ignored.

Thanks! That worked, surprisingly, as my GT730 is F, not K, and according to nvidia requires the 390xx driver.

470xx will normally plainly refuse to run on older than K. So either you are mistaken about that F not K or you have a very weird franken setup now.
