[SOLVED] Screen dims after a few seconds

The screen noticeably dims a few seconds after boot.
I'm using KDE, and this is on a desktop. My monitor backlight setting isn't being changed. I have a Nvidia GPU and I'm using proprietary drivers.

journalctl -b

Thank you in advance!

Re: [SOLVED] Screen dims after a few seconds

The monitor's backlight level can only be changed on the monitor itself. The issue isn't that I want to change the backlight, it's that my video output dims after a few seconds

Re: [SOLVED] Screen dims after a few seconds

Is it the compositor?
SHIFT+Alt+F12 suspends it - does that make the screen brighter?

Re: [SOLVED] Screen dims after a few seconds

Yes, that does make it brighter. It also breaks a few things, which is to be expected.
Are there any log files or configs I should provide? Couldn't find a location for those

Re: [SOLVED] Screen dims after a few seconds

I don't know what you're perceiving, but could be the colord integration or the dimming of inactive window or the nightcolor plugin - look around in systemsettings.

Re: [SOLVED] Screen dims after a few seconds

Couldn't find anything enabled there that might be related, and disabling colord didn't change anything.
Here's a video showing what happens:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VgrQDa … p=drivesdk
I had just enabled compositing again and once I move the mouse it dims. It's less noticeable on the video because of the exposure correction, but you see it.

Re: [SOLVED] Screen dims after a few seconds

It certainly looks like color correction, https://userbase.kde.org/Color_Manageme … ion_in_KDE but i don't use KDE, so idk whether the config GUI still looks the same.

Re: [SOLVED] Screen dims after a few seconds

I don't have that button, it must require some additional package.

Re: [SOLVED] Screen dims after a few seconds

I've installed "colord-kde" as the wiki says, and tried various colour profiles. No luck

Loaded Plugins:
---------------
…
kwin5_plugin_nightcolor
Currently Active Effects:
-------------------------
blur
contrast
…

I'd look there.

Re: [SOLVED] Screen dims after a few seconds

Disabling blur and contrast effects makes no difference, and night colour is already disabled.
From kwinrc:

[NightColor]
Active=false
NightTemperature=6500

Re: [SOLVED] Screen dims after a few seconds

I tried with other system themes, and it seems the issue happens on Breeze too, which is the default. It's just much more extreme, with it turning blue.

This is with breeze after moving the mouse

Re: [SOLVED] Screen dims after a few seconds

I can finally mark this as solved. Turns out the bright blue issue is fairly well known, and it can be easily fixed.
All I had to do was disable "Screen Edge" under desktop effects

Re: [SOLVED] Screen dims after a few seconds

I'd report that upstream - the thing is supposed to show little glowy things in the screen corner(s) to indicate their responsiveness.
MIght be relevant if this is some multiscreen setup.
