[SOLVED] Gnome on Wayland windows lose mouse input

Hello everyone, I could really use your help resolving an issue that I am having. On GNOME 42 (Wayland), windows tend to "lose" mouse or touchpad input within several minutes of usage. The cursor icon no longer changes and mouse clicks are ignored. Keyboard input still works fine. This problem is specific to individual windows. So far, I have been unsuccessful trying to debug this or finding similar issues elsewhere. Here is what I know:

- This appears to happen regardless of the application. I can easily reproduce it with Gnome Console, GIMP and Firefox, to name a few.
- The problem occurs with Gnome + Wayland started from both GDM and SDDM, but does not happen in Gnome on Xorg or Plasma on Wayland.
- I have first noticed this with Gnome 42 and it has not disappeared since.
- My system is fully up-to-date as of May 7, 16:37.
- I have a Thinkpad with AMD processor and integrated GPU. It uses the open source AMDGPU driver.

I will paste several log files generated with

journalctl -ab -r

right after occurrence of the issue. There is no clear indication of anything as far as I can tell. Please let me know if there is any other information or log that I could provide. I highly appreciate anyone taking the time to look at this.

Re: [SOLVED] Gnome on Wayland windows lose mouse input

Please edit your posts and put [⁣code] [⁣/code] tags around all commands and their outputs, it makes things much easier to read for everyone.

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan

Re: [SOLVED] Gnome on Wayland windows lose mouse input

- This appears to happen regardless of the application. I can easily reproduce it with Gnome Console, GIMP and Firefox, to name a few.
- The problem occurs with Gnome + Wayland started from both GDM and SDDM, but does not happen in Gnome on Xorg or Plasma on Wayland.
- I have first noticed this with Gnome 42 and it has not disappeared since.
- My system is fully up-to-date as of May 7, 16:37.
- I have a Thinkpad with AMD processor and integrated GPU. It uses the open source AMDGPU driver.

I had the same problem after updating to 42.

After I couldn't reproduce the problem with a new user account, I resetted the gnome configs with `dconf reset -f /` and that fixed it for me.

Re: [SOLVED] Gnome on Wayland windows lose mouse input

Thank you so much: a reset with the aforementioned command worked. Original post edited to include [ code ] tags and marked solved.

Re: [SOLVED] Gnome on Wayland windows lose mouse input

For what it's worth, I can reproduce the problem by setting

gsettings set org.gnome.mutter check-alive-timeout 0

Setting it to anything else restores functionality.

Fear me! I have root! Sometimes...
