Re: configuring Xorg.conf need help

At the end of running "xorgconfig" there's an option at the very end that asks if you would like to save to an alternate location. If there is no available /etc/X11/xorg.conf file X will attempt an auto configuration, which would be why your screen is in 640x480.

Make sure your ' Subsection "Display" ' modes are all the same. And move the file to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

Re: configuring Xorg.conf need help

hey thanks for the reply this is solved

after reading a few more things about  when using root it will call from the root folder
a user it looks in /etc/X11/ or /usr/etc/X11 for the Xorg.conf file

also it didnt have anything to do with Display section

Section "Device"
     Identifier "Standard VGA"
     VendorName "Unknown"
     BoardName "Unknown"

     Driver "vga"

had to do with these four lines  may of just been the driver
