Cursor Dissappeared in X11

I've just updated to linux-zen 5.17.5 and mesa-git 22.2. Since the upgrade, text has not been rendering properly in SDDM and my mouse cursor has not been showing on my desktop in i3wm, in SDDM and is only showing in some programs (tym, firefox and krita so far). I'm not sure if it is an issue with mesa as games still run with normal performance and everything else is rendering properly. I have also tried booting with linux-tkg-git 5.17.6 and I'm having the same issue. I'm also using xf86-video-amdgpu-git 22.0.0.r5 if that helps. It seems to me like an issue with supergfxctl as the result of

systemctl status supergfxd

is

May 10 23:17:57 arch-asus systemd[1]: Starting SUPERGFX...
May 10 23:17:57 arch-asus supergfxd[472]: INFO: Rescanning PCI bus
May 10 23:17:57 arch-asus systemd[1]: Started SUPERGFX.
May 10 23:17:57 arch-asus supergfxd[472]: ERROR: Gfx control: No dGPU found

Re: Cursor Dissappeared in X11

supergfxd[472]: ERROR: Gfx control: No dGPU found

Is this supposed to be a hybrid system itfp?
Please post the output of

lspci -k

and your xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General

Re: Cursor Dissappeared in X11

It is a hybrid system, running an AMD 6800m and a 5900hs, and it is muxless so using PRIME.
Output of lspci -k is

Re: Cursor Dissappeared in X11

Also if it helps, if I run

supergfxctl -g

The response is

Graphics mode change error.
Please check `journalctl -b -u supergfxd`, and `systemctl status supergfxd`
Unknown object '/org/supergfxctl/Gfx'

Re: Cursor Dissappeared in X11

You're running on the Cezanne chip and this is where the internal display is wired.
I'm not sure there's something on EDID for output DisplayPort-1-0 so the Navi 22 looks like dead weight.
I'm likewise unsure that supergfxctl supports that configuration "A utility for Linux graphics switching on Intel/AMD iGPU + nVidia dGPU laptops" - why do you use it itfp? Does the error remain w/o it?
Are you offloading any of the troublesome clients to the Navi chip?

Re: Cursor Dissappeared in X11

I remember reading a while back that this laptop doesn't work on linux with the DisplayPort (it's a Strix G15 Advantage Edition) but unfortunately I can't find a link. I've uninstalled supergfxctl and the issue is worse, my cursor only shows in terminals and when it is held over text boxes in firefox. I'm pretty sure the Navi GPU is working as I can play games at the usual frame rate in Wine (I haven't got any native games to try) but the cursor also doesn't show in those games. I've tried launching some of the offending apps (GIMP being one of them) with

DRI_PRIME=1

but the issue is still happening. I also tried

xrandr --setprovideroffloadsink 1 0

but that also didn't work.

Re: Cursor Dissappeared in X11

Setting SWcursor to true just made the cursor disappear in everything. Sorry for the stupid question, but how can I test the modesetting driver? Do I just need to add amdgpu to modules in mkinitcpio.conf? Also, I've just installed the LTS kernel so I'll try booting into that first to see if it fixes it.

Re: Cursor Dissappeared in X11

I've tried the LTS kernel but it didn't work. I've also tried recompiling mesa-git a few times but it hasn't worked. One thing I've noticed with that is that there's been quite a few warnings during compilation, and there also were while compiling my kernel (tkg) since upgrading to the latest version of gcc

Re: Cursor Dissappeared in X11

how can I test the modesetting driver?

Just remove xf86-video-amdgpu (and any config file referencing it in /{usr/share,etc}/X11/xorg.conf* )

About mesa-git: what about the prebuilt mesa in the repos?

I remember reading a while back that this laptop doesn't work on linux with the DisplayPort

Setting SWcursor to true just made the cursor disappear in everything.

Is there any external display used/attached?

Re: Cursor Dissappeared in X11

There is no external display attached. So uninstall xf86-video-amdgpu and delete /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-amdgpu.conf?

Re: Cursor Dissappeared in X11

grep -r amdgpu /{usr/share,etc}/X11/xorg.conf*

but basically yes.

Re: Cursor Dissappeared in X11

I removed just /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-amdgpu.conf before realizing about the others and rebooted, Xorg did start but the issue was worse, and there were also some artifacts on the screen. I'm going to try running in wayland and seeing if the issue is still there

Sway didn't seem to suffer from that particular issue, I'll remove all of the files with amdgpu and try again

Tried that, everything is roughly the same, but there is a black shape at the top of my display when on the home screen, but any programs are rendering over the top of it.

Re: Cursor Dissappeared in X11

My cursor does show now in WINE, I'll try the prebuilt mesa-git. Just checking, to do that I'll just need to uninstall mesa-git and lib32-mesa-git, add the repo, and then install, I'll also need to install vulkan-radeon-git and lib32-vulkan-radeon-git right?
Everything is pretty much fixed now, the only things where the cursor is showing is IntelliJ, GIMP, krita, the lutris launcher and on my desktop background. In those apps, the cursor does sometimes show when scrolling over menu bars or popups

Re: Cursor Dissappeared in X11

404 means you didn't update the database and try to fetch dated problems.

Everything is pretty much fixed now

Does that mean it works w/ https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/mesa/ ?
Why are you trying to use mesa-git?

Re: Cursor Dissappeared in X11

No it works mostly with mesa-git from the aur. I'm just using it because I've heard that it can give better performance in games tbh. I know it's stupid but it's worked so far. I've updated the database with pacman -Syyuu but it still doesn't work

Re: Cursor Dissappeared in X11

Seems a problem w/ pkgbuild.com then, *shrug*.

I've heard that it can give better performance

Aha. "heard". I've heard that we're all controlled by lizard-people. Was on the internet.
Try the regular mesa package so we can at least isolate the problem.

Re: Cursor Dissappeared in X11

im having this issue too. Installed arch on virtual box on my Latitude/Vostro 3590. I do have an external display hooked up also. First time i logged on after install the screen was black, then i install xf86-intel-video driver i think or something similar. And that fixed the black screen issue but then my mouse isnt visible. It still works and i can click on stuff but its just not visible. Also had weird artifacting when i used dolphin and terminal. havent found a fix yet. the only desktop that seems to show cursor is regular gnome. all the others wont. gnome stil has weird artifact issues too tho. would prefer to get kde x11 going.

edit: also i do remember doing systemctl enable sddm thing after installing all the kde stuff and rebooting so idk.

Hello im new here and have been in the computer world for a couple years now teaching myself everything i can because i want to do something in the computer science field for the rest of my life. I recently decided it would be good for me to learn vanilla arch so I installed it ( the old school way smile ) and obtained my badge of Arch honor lol

If i log into 'GNOME' which is the only desktop that shows mouse, it will give seemingly normal results. If i log onto KDE x11 glxinfo will just say "Can not open display" or something similar.  both lspcis seem to be the same. Give me a moment and ill edit them into here. Bidirectional clipboard isnt working for my right now so i have to install package to copy/paste the results.

You're running KDE on wayland. Try KDE on X11.
