Third party Nintendo Switch controller freezes whole computer

Hi, kind of a newbie here.

I have this third party controller, the Krom Kloud, that can serve as both Xinput/Xbox and Nintendo Switch Pro controller via bluetooth.
While the Xinput mode works flawlessly, I wanted to pair it to my system on the Switch mode too in order to be able to use the motion controls and gyroscope on the Yuzu and Ryujinx emulators, which are completely locked while on the Xinput mode.

Pairing the controller in the Switch mode, or connecting it after pair, results on the setup completely freezing 2 or 3 seconds after. No exceptions.

I don't know what logs would be needed, so please tell me which ones are and how to get them, and I'll reply with them.

I'm using Cinnamon DE mainly, although it also happens with Gnome and KDE. Tried with 3 different bluetooth adapters and same result.

The hardware in my computer is:
- Ryzen 5 3400G
- Integrated graphics, Vega 11
- Gigabyte B450M-S2H

Re: Third party Nintendo Switch controller freezes whole computer

I can confirm I have this exact same issue, with the same exact controller. The second I plugged the controller in with it in Switch Mode (XInput mode works fine), my entire system locks up. And it is a total lockup as there is nothing related to USB or any kind of input device in the journal, either when my previous system went down or on the next boot. I also noticed that the indicator lights (Caps Lock and Num Lock) on my computer were rapidly flashing. I also had a Youtube video going in Brave when I did this and it stopped completely, frozen video and no audio output.

MSI GP65 Leopard 10SFK Laptop
- Intel i7-10750H
- GTX 2070 Mobile Max-Q
- Plasma 5.24.5
- Kernel Linux 5.17.7

Re: Third party Nintendo Switch controller freezes whole computer

I just hit the same issue with a different controller. GuliKit KingKong2 Pro (NS09). Same exact symptoms as described above. Instant freeze if connected by USB while in switch mode. Takes two or three seconds to crash if connecting by bluetooth in switch mode. xinput/dinput/android modes work fine. Nothing shows up in the logs when connecting by USB but I think I get some interesting messages when connecting by bluetooth. I'll probably have to force the crash again to get those to make sure I'm getting the right logs since I tried a lot of experiments with a couple of different controllers.

Outcomes for different controllers:
GuliKit NS09 crashes the system, bluetooth and usb in switch mode, functions in xinput/dinput/android modes (without motion controls).
Switch Pro Controller functions and has two input events, one for buttons and one for motion controls. No xinput or dinput modes.
8bitdo SN30Pro+ doesn't crash the system in switch mode and shows in lsusb as a nintendo switch pro controller and presents the same device id but can't be used as input in that mode. No input events show up for it in evtest. Functions as expected in xinput/dinput/android modes.

- MSI X399 Creation
- Threadripper 2950
- AMD RX 6900 XT
- SwayWM and i3wm (crash happens in both)
- Linux 5.18.1-arch1-1 or 5.18.1.zen1-1

Edit: Crash does not occur with LTS kernel 5.15.44-1-lts. Tested with USB and bluetooth. Motion controls work in switch mode.

Re: Third party Nintendo Switch controller freezes whole computer

I have the same issue. I get kernel panic when I connect gulikit kingkong controller (NS08) in switch mode, then it kernel panics with caps lock led blinking. I reported the issue in https://github.com/DanielOgorchock/linux/issues/36 but can't get a kdump for this.

My computer redmibook 14 ii 2021 amd:
- AMD 4500U
- Integrated graphics
- KDE Plasma
- 5.18.10-zen1-1-zen

I don't remember how but there was once I got it working after kernel upgrade (means some new kernel module that is not loaded after the upgrade).

Re: Third party Nintendo Switch controller freezes whole computer

I'd like also add that I have the same problem, also with the Gulikit KingKong 2 Pro controller (NS09), updated to the latest firmware and CPU version (not exactly sure what to call it, I think it's chipset firmware but Gulikit's website is kind of confusing).

On my desktop with
- AMD Ryzen 1600
- 5.18.14-1-ck-generic-v3

As stated above, all but the Nintendo Switch mode works, which is unfortunate because that would allow for use of the gyro aim configuration in steam. I've seen reddit threads where someone did get it to work https://old.reddit.com/r/GuliKit/commen … 2/id4thbc/ about a month ago. Although no information on their system is stated.

Journalctl similarly for me has no information on anything that happened.

I know Switch HID drivers were mainlined in 5.16, has something happened there that broke support somehow? I will manually install the dkms driver to find out.

EDIT: That did nothing, still a hard crash/freeze

Nothing on jouralctl again.

The OP has not been back since May, so I am going to consider this thread abandoned and close it.

maikthechicken, if you need support, please open a new topic and link back to this one if you think it applies.

Closing.
