I've been using Arch Linux for a while now (a couple of years, I think), and have always wanted pacman to be able to show me a list of packages fitting a certain search parameter, listing those installed and those not installed. For instance, say I want to see all the possible packages in my enabled repos that have something to do with xfce, but at the same time, I want to see which of those in the list I already have installed, and which I don't. To do this I have always done
pacman -Ss xfce
pacman -Qs xfce
in two different windows and browse each list.
Is there an easier way to do this? I find this way very cumbersome.

Is "pacsearch' maybe what you're looking for?
You could look in the wiki for details on pacsearch.

Thanks. That's *exactly* what I've wanted. However, when I run
pacsearch ^qt
or
pacsearch qt
or pacsearch with any package at all, I get absolutely no output.

I'm sure you would like yaourt.
Thanks, byte. After finding pacsearch gave me no output at all, I installed yaourt. Very nice. That does what I want. Thanks.
