^^^ loqs solved it for me, thanks very much. Looks like a fix for this will be integrated into mainline kernel, hopefully by 5.19 or when the patch for KVM gets integrated, and in the meantime we can use the suggested patch.
Does anyone know how to debug this to figure out whether it is due to kernel or to qemu/KVM?
This problem exists with 5.18 kernel but first appeared in later 5.17 kernels; however, when I start qemu/KVM with linux-lts it still works well.
I am wondering where to try and submit bug reports (it's a bit of a process), and what the chances are of it being resolved, or whether I should look at getting new hardware. The PC is now 10 years old and arch has worked really well on it for the last 8 years.
Is there a limit to the age of hardware that developers are willing to resolve for?
The first thing I will probably do is update BIOS, because there is a later version, but after that I'm out of ideas.
Thanks!
