i'm getting this error sporadically:
"out of processor power for real-time audio processing. Cannot continue."
if i click on the OK button in the error message, things work fine again ... for a while, then crash!
i am using the standard kernel (not low latency).
i have setup pipewire-jack (not jack2) and pipewire-alsa.
disabling jack inside of rosegarden doesn't help.
the problem didn't exist when i was on gnome (with pulseaudio) - now i'm using leftwm (and no desktop).
my machine is an i7 with 16G ram and on a 1T nvme ssd.
the cpu usage is usually under 5% and the memory usage is rarely above
20% when the error occurs.
the problem is occurring on more than one machine (though the second one isn't as powerful).
this is happening on midi playback/record, so it seems to have nothing to do with actual audio recording via jack.
i found this thread on linuxmusicians:
https://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?t=15468
and the solution was to remove plugins, but i have no plugins!
where do i go to see the errors (don't see an rg log)?
couldn't find anything using:
journalctl -S 2022-05-27 -g rosegarden
other than my reinstalling the program.
EDIT:
after trying several things, i found that to prevent (or so it seems) these crashes, i need to start fluidsynth after i open rg - not before.
in other words,
1. start rg
2. then systemctl --user start fluidsynth.service
i've been working for well over an hour recording midi with no crashes on the second computer where the crashes were far more frequent. i am assuming, the problem is gone.
yet if i reverse 1 and 2, i get these sporadic crashes.
i have no explanation ...
possibly someone else does?
EDIT (22-05-30):
switch to timidity++ and there are no problems whatsoever (playback or record!) - using the fluildsynthGM.sf2 still (configuring soundfont to it in /etc/timidity/timidity.cfg).
there seems to be something similar in this post:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 4#p1973284
so, the problem is solved for me, but if anyone has any possible explanations, i'd like to hear them.
