Teamviewer not working with i3

Title says it mostly, I tried to install and use teamviewer on my machine without being able to open it.

I'd rather not have to install a desktop environment for TeamViewer.

What does one have to do with the other?  If teamviewer will meet your needs, install teamviewer.

I'm using i3 and unless there's no alternative, I'd rather not have to install a desktop environment for TeamViewer.

What is your problem here? teamviewer runs just fine with i3.

When trying to run teamviewer I get:

Init...
CheckCPU: SSE2 support: yes
XRandRWait: No value set. Using default.
XRandRWait: Started by user.
Checking setup...
Launching TeamViewer ...
Launching TeamViewer GUI ...

But no GUI loads, I did some research and I thought it was because you need a desktop environment for TeamViewer, and as far as I'm aware, i3 is just a window manager. Maybe there's another error I'm not seeing...

Cloned AUR
makepkg -s
sudo pacman -U reallylongfile.zst
teamviewer

Am I doing something wrong?

Correct, there is.  Diagnosis this problem should be your focus as teamviewer would be expected to run just fine with i3.

The installation approach looks good, but you didn't post the output it would have given you.  Part of that output would instruct you on starting the daemon before trying to run teamviewer itself.  It doesn't look like you have done this - and this would certainly cause it to fail.

To get help with teamviewer, you should either start a new thread, or edit the title of this thread to highlight the actual problem you need help solving wich is that teamviewer is not starting up properly and / or not showing the expected GUI.

When the daemon is not started, a dialog box should show up (in my case it is nearly outside of the screen area in the bottom right corner, xorg hidpi is annoying.)

The aur comments mention teamviewer may require you to start i3 with a display manager like lightdm: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/teamviewer
I think you should be able to work around that, but I have no interest in doing the work. Possibly setting "export XDG_SESSION_TYPE=x11" may help.

My steps:
git clone (AUR repo)
cd into it
makepkg -si (no errors)
sudo systemctl enable teamviewerd
sudo systemctl start teamviewerd

teamviewer:
Init...
CheckCPU: SSE2 support: yes
Checking setup...
Launching TeamViewer ...
Launching TeamViewer GUI ...
[*my_user*@arch teamviewer]$

TeamViewer business practices are horrible. I would avoid them at all costs and use one of the other options linked to by Trilby.
