[SOLVED] Alacritty opacity RESOLVED (just enable compositor)

version alacritty 0.11.0-dev
I'm usign KDE plasma, tried using the force blur script, didn't worked.
in the configuration file
window.opacity: 0.0, this is ignored

window: opacity: 0.0,  this is ignored

background_opacity: 0.0, deprecated

I've used the npm package "alacritty-themes", but I don't know of this is why the value is being overwitten and ignored

SOLVED: enable "Compositor" on Display and monitor in system settings (KLE PLASMA)

#
# The `mouse.enabled` field controls if the hint should be underlined while

# Mouse bindings are specified as a list of objects, much like the key
# bindings further below.
#
# To trigger mouse bindings when an application running within Alacritty
# captures the mouse, the `Shift` modifier is automatically added as a
# requirement.
#
# Each mouse binding will specify a:
#
# - `mouse`:
#
# - Middle
# - Left
# - Right
# - Numeric identifier such as `5`
#
# - `action` (see key bindings for actions not exclusive to mouse mode)
#
# - Mouse exclusive actions:
#
# - ExpandSelection
# Expand the selection to the current mouse cursor location.
#
# And optionally:
#
# - `mods` (see key bindings)
#mouse_bindings:
#  - { mouse: Right,                 action: ExpandSelection }
#  - { mouse: Right,  mods: Control, action: ExpandSelection }
#  - { mouse: Middle, mode: ~Vi,     action: PasteSelection  }
# Key bindings
#
# Key bindings are specified as a list of objects. For example, this is the
# default paste binding:
#
# `- { key: V, mods: Control|Shift, action: Paste }`
#
# Each key binding will specify a:
#
# - `key`: Identifier of the key pressed
#
# - A-Z
# - F1-F24
# - Key0-Key9
#
# A full list with available key codes can be found here:
# [url]https://docs.rs/glutin/*/glutin/event/enum.VirtualKeyCode.html#variants[/url]
#
# Instead of using the name of the keys, the `key` field also supports using
# the scancode of the desired key. Scancodes have to be specified as a
# decimal number. This command will allow you to display the hex scancodes
# for certain keys:
#
# `showkey --scancodes`.
#
# Then exactly one of:
#
# - `chars`: Send a byte sequence to the running application
#
# The `chars` field writes the specified string to the terminal. This makes
# it possible to pass escape sequences. To find escape codes for bindings
# like `PageUp` (`"\x1b[5~"`), you can run the command `showkey -a` outside
# of tmux. Note that applications use terminfo to map escape sequences back
# to keys. It is therefore required to update the terminfo when changing an
# escape sequence.
#
# - `action`: Execute a predefined action
#
# - ToggleViMode
# - SearchForward
# Start searching toward the right of the search origin.

# - PasteSelection
# Paste from the selection buffer.
#
# - `command`: Fork and execute a specified command plus arguments
#
# The `command` field must be a map containing a `program` string and an
# `args` array of command line parameter strings. For example:
# `{ program: "alacritty", args: ["-e", "vttest"] }`
#

#
# - Command
# - Control
# - Option
# - Super
# - Shift
# - Alt
#
# Multiple `mods` can be combined using `|` like this:
# `mods: Control|Shift`.
# Whitespace and capitalization are relevant and must match the example.
#
# - `mode`: Indicate a binding for only specific terminal reported modes
#
# This is mainly used to send applications the correct escape sequences
# when in different modes.
#
# - AppCursor
# - AppKeypad
# - Search
# - Alt
# - Vi
#
# A `~` operator can be used before a mode to apply the binding whenever
# the mode is *not* active, e.g. `~Alt`.
#
# Bindings are always filled by default, but will be replaced when a new
# binding with the same triggers is defined. To unset a default binding, it can
# be mapped to the `ReceiveChar` action. Alternatively, you can use `None` for
# a no-op if you do not wish to receive input characters for that binding.
#
# If the same trigger is assigned to multiple actions, all of them are executed
# in the order they were defined in.

Re: [SOLVED] Alacritty opacity RESOLVED (just enable compositor)

Please edit the post and wrap it in code tags, https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#bbcode

yml is python-a-like, you need to uncomment the "window" section and maintain the indention of the "opacity" key which is just "opactiy: 0.0"

…
window:
  opacity: 0.0
…

Re: [SOLVED] Alacritty opacity RESOLVED (just enable compositor)

You can collapse onto a single line in yaml, but not with a dotted notation, instead if you really want it on one line:

window: { opacity: 0.0 }

However, I'd just stick with the format in seth's example.

Re: [SOLVED] Alacritty opacity RESOLVED (just enable compositor)

#this do not work:
#window:
# opacity: 0.0

#this also do not work:
#window.opacity: 0.0

#this also do not work:
window: {opacity: 0.0}

i've tried several, the value is always ignored

Re: [SOLVED] Alacritty opacity RESOLVED (just enable compositor)

Can you set the opacity with a command line argument (note here alacritty *can* uses dotted format for options):

alacritty -o "window.opacity=0.0"

Also, as previously noted, please edit your previous post to add code tags - it's a pain scrolling through this thread.

Re: [SOLVED] Alacritty opacity RESOLVED (just enable compositor)

doing that just opens a new instance of alacritty, and does not change the opacity

That's not conducive to getting futher answers.  For what it's worth, I had a similar question when I read that post of yours.  It wasn't entirely clear whether you had commented those out after testing them without being commented, or if that's how they were the whole time.  Given that your previous posts indicate that you don't know how yaml works and / or didn't know that this was a yaml file, it's a fair question.

You mean it's not obvious to you?  You mean you don't know everything?  Shouldn't we assume you do know everything to avoid your wrath?  both of these could probably also be answered by ... er ... ah ... what's that internet search engine thing.

I would know, not the first config file Ive edited and you are just supposing things,  I just asked why It didn't work.
Supposing that I didn't know commenting that is low of you.
I tested and tested from many threads about the same issue.

wrath?, I'm grateful for your comments, but just don't be so full of yourself.

I searched and here I am, seen countless threads about the same issue, none resolved this, but here people might know why.

thanks for your attention and help, but try to be less snob next time.

A mildly intelligent reader of this thread will not come to a favorable opinion about you.
