It may be a firefox issue and/or a pipewire issue.

My setup is this:

i use the same speakers for 2 PCs.  The speakers are plugged on my ASUS ROG SWIFT PG279Q monitor. The arch linux pc is plugged on it via HDMI. The other PC is plugged on DP. I switch between the 2 pcs with the monitor's onboard menu.

Please note that many linux distros i installed before all had popping sound issues... all but fedora KDE plasma.

When i installed arch linux, i did have popping issues. One of the main reasons i opted for arch linux is because of the crazy useful wiki and forum! i found a fix here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=265138

the problem came back after executing the above updates.

Any help is appreciated!

Re: popping sound facebook videos on firefox (since update)

edit:  the popping happens on other occasions too:

pops once right when i start watching a video on youtube (really not often)
sometimes when i open a page on a new tab
pops when clicking on the speaker icon on the task bar right after hearing a popping sound

the popping seem to manifest more often when facebook is opened on a tab.

this is driving me nuts. can someone help?

Re: popping sound facebook videos on firefox (since update)

I got this in other applications. It was the pipewire update so I rolled back and for the moment I'm blocking these updates:

warning: pipewire: ignoring package upgrade (1:0.3.51-1 => 1:0.3.52-1)
warning: pipewire-pulse: ignoring package upgrade (1:0.3.51-1 => 1:0.3.52-1)

Re: popping sound facebook videos on firefox (since update)

wow... how did you rollback? it has soooo many apps that depends on it, right?  and how does one ignore that specific version while updating daily?

edit:  do you think it would be worth reporting it? as in declaring the issue in pipewire's github repo or something...

Re: popping sound facebook videos on firefox (since update)

UPDATE:

For those looking for a potential fix, creating the following file will set the sampling at 48000:

/etc/pipewire/pipewire.conf.d/sample-rates.conf

content:

context.properties = {
    default.clock.allowed-rates  = [ 48000 ]
}
