How to spice up my Grub Menu

Is there an article that discusses custom Grub menu in detail?

Specifically, I'd like to add a custom image, and change the timeout for choosing the Kernel/OS.

I'm sure I could figure out the timeout, however, I'm not seeing something for adding a custom image in the Wiki.

Should I refer to the man pages instead?

If you want a bootloader with custom image, etc, you can have a look at rEFInd.  You can create custom eye-candy bootloader with custom images, custom icons and control the timing.
