I3 home subdirectory not seen by every program [SOLVED]

I'm talking about the Music, Documents, Video, etc.. directories

the file manager recognize them correctly as i have installed the package xdg-user-dir (not sure about the name but you got it)
problem is that when i open or save a file with a program, (text editor, gimp etc..) they are not shown in the right column, they are treated like normal directories.

now im sure it's about an enviroment variable, but i dont know which one and i don't know where i'm supposed to declare that.
Can somebody help or link the right documentation to fix this?

Thank you

Not sure what you are looking for exactly. For the purposes of having access to those dirs they are just plain normal directories, the only thing the xdg-user-dirs do is create them and configure their default icons relevantly for programs that follow the spec, for purposes of listing and accessing them they are just normal dirs.

Re: I3 home subdirectory not seen by every program [SOLVED]

for example this happens when i have to select the destination folder in qbittorrent or if i look for a iso file in virtualbox, in the left column "look in:" i can only see "computer" and "home" i dont see documents, music, etc. like it happens on a full DE. So i think i left something out.

Are you maybe thinking about XDG_SESSION_TYPE ?

It's mentioned in man pam_systemd and I do remember setting it changed the layout for some programs / file managers .

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

This could also just be down to the dialog Qt uses - the native one or the KDE or Gnome one (depending on what you compare this to)
In the Qt dialog, you can just dnd folders you want to have on the left column there.

actually dnd worked.. there's a lesson to learn here, so much tweaking with configuration files and advanced settings that i didn't try the simplest solution! thank you
