I am trying to connect a tv to my laptop and the hdmi is wired to the nvidia card and there is no sound. In pavucontrol all of the options show as unplugged. [Screenshot]

Does anyone know what I should do to get it working?

Is it just an issue of port detection? Does it work if you try to play back to them
speaker-test -Dhw:1,3 -c2 # hw:1,7 1,8 1,9
is the TV on and actively receiving a signal?

The TV is receiving a signal and the picture works, I do have to use nvidia-xrun for it to work though because hdmi only works when using nvidia. Trying speaker-test and aplay with a wav file doesnt have any sound but there are no errors.

I have switched to using optimus-manager and it now works properly. Not really a perfect fix because its not compatible with bumblebee, but its good enough and I can just make something to switch between them.
