I have seen multiple posting for this and after applying various tips was still pulling my hair out trying to get it to work..... but now it does.
the beryl start script references another WM that is not available so bypass this.
Make sure you default depth in xorg.conf is 24
Make sure Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals"
and Composite are also there.
to launch I have a little icon on my desktop to go-3d

beryl --replace dbus settings &
beryl-manager &
emerald --replace &also make sure that you allow other programs in the root window in Kcontrolcenter
