Recently (as of today), starting up my pc and logging in (which automatically runs "exec startx" from my .zprofile) will result in heavy slowdowns in my xserver. Tab autocompletions more often than not hang, youtube videos don't play, audio doesn't seem to work (opening pavucontrol just shows "Connecting to pulseaudio" or has similar issues), vim hangs frequently (though surprisngly nvim doesn't), etc. Opening htop shows very little CPU and RAM usage, though.
The weird part is that if I pkill X or pkill awesome, which logs me out, when I log in again (which automatically runs startx again), everything works properly! There was also one instance today where everything worked properly the very first time after booting, but I haven't been able to recreate it.
I'm using awesomewm with no compositor and almost nothing in the config changed. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and let me know if there's any more information I should provide (logs, screenshots of certain things, etc.)

Post an xorg log from a slow and a fast session, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General
But most likely you just want to add https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel … _KMS_start
The early KMS start did not help. I'm fairly certain I did it correctly, setting
MODULES=(nvidia nvidia_modeset nvidia_uvm nvidia_drm)in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and then running
sudo mkinitcpio -p linuxand then rebooting.
Here is the slow Xorg log:

Hmm... I swapped my shell from zsh to fish and now everything seems to work fine. I can't imagine why this would be the case though.

Never mind, this only appeared to work because I wasn't immediately running startx on login at first.

You're not resorting to the software rasterizer (though remove the static /etc/X11/xorg.conf to not blur the behavior) but are clearly running into a race condition.
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=277675 is similar but the nvidia driver flat-out crashes.
