Touchpad not detected (ASUS TUF F15 FX506HM) (SOLVED)

At some point in the past few months my touchpad stopped being detected entirely by Linux. I noticed it a while ago, but I usually use a mouse so I'm not sure when it actually happened. For anyone who's wondering if maybe there is something wrong with the hardware, I dual boot windows and the touchpad works fine in there. There seems to be a number of bugs in the kernel bugzilla about this but they seem to be from at the latest last year, but most of the fixes suggested (short of patching the kernel, which it seems like the relevant patches have already made it in) don't work, so I'm not really sure where to pick up on this.

It appears the issue was because I had

acpi="windows 2009"

set, changing to 2015 seems to have resolved the issue.
