Fresh install cannot launch gui

Due to a lot of problems rescuing a borked system I decided to do a completely fresh install. The first round install seemed to go smoothly once I allowed it to format the disk the way it saw fit, but when I booted I arrived at a command line. It seems that despite my choosing the desktop profile and kde plasma was not installed.

So I explicitly listed it as an additional package/ Now when I boot after some brief on-screen messages it switches to a blank screen with a small bright dash in the upper left corner. It is unresponsive.

I installed arch successfully on this machine before. Should I try an older install iso? If yes, where would I look?

I feel like I have been posting a lot but I really want to get this to work and I keep running into new problems.

Re: Fresh install cannot launch gui

How did you install Arch? We need to know the steps you followed to know where's the error.

And maybe a journal log from a failed boot.

Edit: if you change the default target to multi-user.target you can boot correctly without GUI?
