How to backup using snapshots?

I want to backup my entire arch installation by creating snapshots of some kind, idk if this is the correct terminology.
What I want is to create some sort of image in external hard drive which can be used to restore the EXACT state of my system at that point. I came across timeshift but its method of restoring the snapshots was a bit hard to understand as it required selecting the partitions which wasn't that clear. What I mean is it asks for selecting target devices which has created problems for me later.

Could you suggest some way to do something like this?
