One bonus point for dokuwiki.. it can use database backends for authentication, and is pretty flexible in that regard.

Might be able to tie the users into one of the other arch resources.. like a forum or bugtracker (though forum would probably be preferrable).

PunBB has a mod for DokuWiki integration.

Since the forums here are running phpBB already....

MediaWiki can authenticate against any external mechanism, too.
MediaWiki is well tested and uses a "real" DB. And if you look at the source of dokuwiki you wont use it anymore ;-)
I would recommond to stay with MediaWiki, but update to a recent version and write a plugin to use the accounts of the forum.

I figure since MediaWiki's installed stick with it.
But really, how many sites need all the features MediaWiki provides? I think it's WAY overkill for 99% of the wiki's out there.
Mediawiki also has no real support for any of the wiki community features like Sistersites and NearLinks, which is a huge drawback in my opinion.

I did a quick install and threw some articles into docuwiki... took a while to get it to where I thought it's reasonably done... for an example.

While i personally really prefer dokuwiki over mediawiki (and this point doesn't apply as much to highly technical communities), everyone knows how to edit mediawiki.
Then you know that DokuWiki syntax is not harder than MediaWiki's. And IMHO much better.

I would prefer to keep mediawiki rather than changing it. it's installed and works well.
Mediawiki is IMHO better than dokuwiki. Dokuwiki is slower than mediawiki with a big number of doc and you can't have the possibility to classify the doc easyly as it is in mediawiki. We used it on archlinuxfr.org about 1,5 year, and it was a pain to maintain : code isn't consistent and bad designed. Now we use mediawiki and it's easier to maintain. About authentification system there are already plugin for phpbb :
http://authmediawiki.googlecode.com/svn … uth_phpBB/
And If you want one for punbb you could use this one :
http://projet.archlinuxfr.org/browser/t … _punbb.php
works well

While I don't think we need to change wikis - I DO think doku is very nice, and fun to work with.
