wine prefixes and choosing libraries for them

Hi

Im interested in making a wine prefix for a game i would like to play. I know how to actually create the prefix and install my game but different windows games and apps need different libraries to be installed with winetricks and winecfg.

what i'd like to know is how can I find what libraries i need to install for a certain game/app or, do most people just install a standard set of libraries such as vcrun2015, vcrun2019 dotnet46 etc. and for games in particular, are there specific d3d files i need to install? although i will be using dxvk and vkd3d-proton scripts to install those into my prefix.

I realise most people seem to use things like lutris but im trying to learn and understand how to properly set up wine prefixes and im just unclear which files i need to install. any info would be much appreciated.

jimmy

edit: fixed typo

Re: wine prefixes and choosing libraries for them

If you are going to do distinct prefixes to have stuff isolated it makes little sense to me to just install a kitchen sink of libs that the application in question doesn't necessarily require, so yes I'd go with installing thins as needed for the software you want to run in that prefix.
