[SOLVED] poor battery life – IdeaPad 5 Pro 14ACN6

My laptop is an IdeaPad 5 Pro 14ACN6 with AMD Ryzen 7 5800U, an nVidia MX450 and a 2880x1800 90Hz refresh rate IPS panel.

Battery life is around 6 to 7 hours and in my opinion very poor.

I set the cpu govener to battery save and all cores run all the time very low at ~400MHz. The problem is that there are 16 (virtual) cores and 400Hz for every core is in total still much.

Powertop reports a drain of around 8W to 10W while IDLE ... . – my XPS 9150 from 2015 (only 4 cores) consumes only around 3W to 4W while IDLE ..

I have installed nvidia-prime. I hope there is nothing else to do for best battery saving for dedicated GPU.

I reduce the refresh rate of my panel from 90Hz to 60Hz but it has no big impact.

Is there something else what I can do for better battery life? Can I deactivate some cores?

I used TLP.
It optimises battery consumption.

I am already use tlp. It saves around 0,5W and has no big impact.

But I found this. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PRIME# … er_offload

For Turing generation cards with Intel Coffee Lake or above CPUs as well as some Ryzen CPUs like the 5800H, it is possible to fully power down the GPU when not in use.

Follow the description in Wiki for fully power down the GPU when not in use.

It saves around 3W. My battery life is around 9h-10h while programming (IDLE around 4,5-5,5W). Thats not great but reasonable.
