Unable to set only usb c monitor as output

Observable Behavior:
When the monitor does work, it's showing up on DP1-8. I don't get why it's showing up in the 8th submonitor of DP1 instead of just showing up as DP1??
I had a udev rule to manage monitor events - but for some reason, recently that hook has been randomly firing/firing repeatedly when a monitor is plugged in/unplugged. Is there a driver I should look into?
Whenever I try to turn off the primary laptop display and only use the external monitor, my laptop spazzes for a minute, then either goes to sleep or loses connection to the monitor. I have to unplug/replug the monitor to get it to detect again.
When my laptop goes into sleep mode, whether it is able to access the monitor agin after waking is a coin flip. For the last day, it's always been tails.
I have intermittently experienced an issue in which xrandr says it has an issue with crtc 0. Not too sure what that means, but might be a driver problem?

I have attached the output of udevadm monitor when i plug in the usb c cable below.
