i586

Hello all!

I'm new to this froum and using AL at home on my main machine.
It's a great distri.  big_smile

Now I will install AL onto an older maschine. It is an old Compaq LTE laptop with a pentium 150.
:?: Is it possible to install AL on this maschine? If yes how?

I have download the i586-packages but is there a setup too?

Thanx

Re: i586

which i586 packages?

i know a few people have made i586 ports locally but i know of no packages publically posted for i586 arch linux.

i would be interested to know where these packges are as i am working on a i586 port right now.

Re: i586

I have found a link here in the mailing list.
See: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=204
This are packages recompiled for i586 I think.

Is it nessesary to have converted buildfiles for an i586?
I think no. Only change the settings in the configuration is enough.
Or not?

If you are working on the ports now, is it possible to get them for testing?

Is there also an intaller or an iso?

Re: i586

There is no install/iso for the i586 yet.
There are some devvers working on the i586, but I get the feeling that they don't work together sad

Re: i586

ok i forgot about that thread. andy did make a setup file for it so i suppose you could possibly alter the floppy images so that you can install those base packages via ftp then you can install and then start build up from there. Which will be difficult as the person who is offering these packages did not include wget, lftp, or cvsup. cvs up is required for abs to work and you wil need abs to work.

another option is installing crux i586 then installing pacman and using it to install to the drive you need and at least you could get abs running.

or perhaps you can use i686 arch to install the i586packages to your drive and wget ans cvsup as well and then build up from there.

either way would take a bit of effort.
