Re: I/O error out of the blue

I'd look at its connection, maybe re-seat and possibly test it in another device, but since the drive isn't supposed to be asleep during the test at all, this sounds like a hardware issue.
Are the errors also reflected by changes in the smartctl output?

No they aren't at smartctl output.

Re: I/O error out of the blue

Then it's more likely a bus than a drive error - so usually the cable, but not on a notebook. Check the drive in a different context. It might also just have come loose or the notebook cannot produce suffient power to the device for other reasons (aging battery? Even on external supply it might fail w/ the battery essentially being a capacitor)

Weird, i plugged in while badblocks running and it gave one CommWake error then continued it.

Re: I/O error out of the blue

Also my HDD isn't directly connected to a SATA port.
There is a SATA to flex (idk) cable. (Not usb or raid)
I don't think it can cause trouble though

And also i tried secure erasing with hdparm and it didn't work.

It gave me

 bad/missing sense data, sb[]: 70 00 05 00
00 00 00 0a 04 51 60 00 21 04 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00 00

Which is same as before one:

Aug 08 15:35:40 archlinux kernel: sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] tag#5 Sense Key : Illegal Request [current]
Aug 08 15:35:40 archlinux kernel: sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] tag#5 Add. Sense: Unaligned write command

According to:
70  response code=Current information (about the error etc.)
00
05  sense code=Illegal Request
00 00 00 00 (not valid)
0a  additional 10 bytes
04 51 60 00  (command specific)
21 04 additional sense code=Unaligned Write Command
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

Weird right?

I think the CommWake errors while running badblocks was my fault because of i tried secure erasing it before running it (maybe password or frozen state idk). It runs flawlessly now and if i plug in it gives one CommWake error (i think it's normal because of switching power supply) and no errors after that.
