[SOLVED] How to i set my keyboard to UK?

ive tried vconsole.conf
      KEYMAP=uk

"setxkbmap -layout uk." does not work either. I get the error "error loading new keyboard description"

its currently set the the US layout and i have no idea what else i can try.

Upcoming re-union of Ireland
Try

setxkbmap -layout gb

/usr/share/kbd/keymaps/i386/qwerty/uk.map.gz should™ exist, but vconsole.conf only affects the console, not the GUI environment.
